Over the last decade, civil society organisations in Varadžin have grown in number and policy role, particularly in the areas of childcare, environment, and health as well as professional organisations and organisations of the retired.
Organisations operatig in those fields have professionalised and local government has become more responsive to initiatives from civil society. However, political turbulence and changes to power structures in Varadžin over the last couple of years pose a threat to the development of systematic cooperation with civil society and its role in governance.
